Leigham Primary School have been leading a ‘Dream Big’ theme since September 2022, with visitors to the school including a professional athlete and a children’s author.
Leigham Primary School wants their children to aspire to become the best they can be and reach their full potential.
Headteacher Sam Barker said:
“We understand how important it is to provide the opportunity at primary school to meet a wide range of people doing different jobs. Our aim is to invite inspirational, diverse people from a range of careers, who can connect with our school to talk to the children about their jobs and show them how what they are learning at school can lead to an interesting, exciting future.
“We have been fortunate to have already had two amazing role models visit Leigham Primary this term.”
The first visitor was Mike Lucas, who was a pupil at Leigham Primary School in the 1970s and his family still live locally. He is now a published children’s author and engineer and lives in Australia. One of his books is set in Leigham Woods. The children thoroughly enjoyed meeting Mike and listening to some of his stories.
The second visitor was David King, who was born and grew up in Plymouth. He is now a professional athlete who specialises in the 110m hurdles. He was a member of Team GB in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and competed in the British Championships and Commonwealth Games. The children were inspired by his talent and asked quality questions to find out more.

He left Leigham Primary with a meaningful quote, ‘As long as you have hope in your heart, you can achieve anything!’
