St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth is throwing open the doors of their Light Up a Life celebrations to anyone who will be missing a loved one this Christmas.
Held at The Minster Church of St Andrew in the heart of Plymouth on Tuesday 12 December, the charity’s Light Up a Life remembrance services – at 2pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm – promise to be inclusive and uplifting occasions.
You don’t have to be religious, a churchgoer or have a connection with St Luke’s to go along. You can experience the peaceful camaraderie of others who understand how you’re feeling, light a candle in memory of someone special who has died, sing
Christmas carols, listen to comforting words, and enjoy festive refreshments afterwards.
St Luke’s Events Lead Georgina Mayhew said:
“We know that when you have lost a
loved one this can be a difficult time of year, tinged with sadness and full of poignant memories. We hope these special gatherings, kindly sponsored by Waterways Drainage specialists, will help reassure you that you are not alone and your nearest and dearest are not forgotten.”
If you can’t make it to the services, there is a Light Up A Life online tribute page on St Luke’s website where you can share a photo and a memory of someone you’ll be thinking of at Christmas time, knowing that the donation you make, however small, will help local families receive the compassionate care of the hospice charity’s expert teams, when and where they need it.
This year St Luke’s has also created a limited edition Light up a Life pin badge featuring a festive robin as a symbol of brightness to cheer the darkest of days. The badges will be available to buy at the candlelit services and from St Luke’s shops, while stocks last.
