Writer Sam Gardner who works at the Independent comic book shop ‘The Final Frontier’ located in the west end of Plymouth has written and self published his own comic book Capital P.
The Final Frontier sits just outside the market in the west end of Plymouth City centre and is a place of comics, toys and popular culture trinkets with a dedicated clientele of toy collectors, comic book fans and pop culture aficionados and takes part in Plymouth Events including Free Comic Book Day. Sam Gardner works as a sales assistant for the shop and his love for print media and comics has pushed him to establish his own comic and Indie publishing label named ‘Capeverse Comics‘. After success with his previous work being published in the Comichaus anthology, a monthly 44 page comic book featuring independent creators and Starburst Magazine, a British science fiction magazine. Sam has now published the first issue in a 12 part comic series called Capital P, an interesting subversion on the superhero genre.

Sam’s previous work has been described as “remarkable” by Bleeding Cool’s Rich Johnston for Sam’s musical comic which used slip switches to play music as you read through and a ‘Buckle up Edition’ comic which unfolds into a superhero costume and is now archived in the V&A museum for its uniqueness.
He’s also self published a comic series called ‘The Tamar Brigade’ where he and other creators took local legends around Devon & Cornwall and made them into a local ‘Justice league’. This is where Sam found the artist and illustrator Jerome Canty who became the artist for Sam’s Latest endeavor Capital P.
Capeverse Comics has been set up by Sam and his wife, Chloe. The comic is created in partnership with artist and illustrator Jerome Canty who’s artistic inspiration came from british comic book series 2000AD.
Sam Said:
“from a very young age I’ve always loved, superheroes and for many years I’ve been, desperate to write about them. Capital P is as much a deconstruction of the superhero as it is a love letter to them.”
The Synopsis for the comic book series ‘Capital P’ states:
“In the city of Chicago, cold winds aren’t the only thing that cut through the night. A killer is on the loose and a masked man with a Capital P upon his chest is first at the scene. Raised on four colour concepts of morality by the comic books that inspired his calling, this city’s newest protector must come to terms with a very chilling discovery. He’ll have to learn what that means for him in a world that’s a far cry from the pages of a superhero story. This is not a simple tale of good triumphing over evil.”
