This Summer sees the return of the Plymouth Colour Collective Summer Exhibition, this time at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth.
The Plymouth based group of colourful artists ‘Plymouth Colour Collective’ including Brian Pollard, Arth Lawr, Laura Edmunds, Lou C Fused Glass and Henry Sells, will be bringing together their individual styles and showcasing their most recent works on the Theatre Royal Plymouth walls from 24th August until 15th September.
Brian founded the group several years ago and since then their exhibitions have gone from strength to strength.
“Working as an artist is a rather solitary occupation, so being involved in a group of like-minded colleagues creates a platform for discussion and exchange of ideas, as well as mutual support and removes the feeling of isolation”.
Their work ranges from paint to sculpture and from fused glass to beach clean art. The artists all share the theme of vibrant colour and often celebrate the south west in their work.

Henry has concentrated on the coastline this year, particularly in Plymouth.
“We are blessed to live in an area with some stunning scenery and I hope that we can promote this in our exhibition.”

This year Arth Lawr has been using a range of repurposed materials to create his work, including reclaimed wood which he has been painting on and carving. He has been
“focusing on the traditional folk art of wooden cutouts, but with my own twist. I’ve discovered the appeal of working with wood, the feel of the grain and the scent of the sap.”
He will be exhibiting his latest pieces in which he continues to work with bright colours and strong forms.
Lou C Fused Glass, the groups fused glass artist loves to create local, vibrant scenes. In one of her new works she has created a colourful Plymouth pub scene including the iconic Navy and Dolphin, complete with phone box and bunting.
“I love to add a bit of sunshine and fun to my scenes and there is so much inspiration in the south west. Pesky seagulls are a regular feature in my scenes too- because let’s face it, they are everywhere!”
Like Lou, Laura has been busy creating local scenes. Laura is a beach clean artist and uses the sea glass and junk found on local beaches to create local landscapes.
“This year I have used more bright colours, especially neon pink and orange. My pictures are becoming more detailed than before and I have used the exhibition as an opportunity to create and display the biggest pictures that I have ever made.”
“My aim is to bring joy and a smile to people’s faces at the same as bringing the state of the ocean and our beaches to the forefront. As an artist based in Plymouth, an ocean city and the UK’s first marine park, I am really pleased to be able to highlight the problem of plastic pollution , the ocean and our close connection to it.”
The Plymouth Colour Collective Exhibition can be viewed during the Theatre Royal’s opening hours and the artists can be found on social media.
