Plymouth actor Aaron Deakins has been cast as a U.S. Navy SEAL in the upcoming A24 film Warfare. This exciting news comes on the heels of Deakins completing his role in the independent film Tape 52, where he not only acted but also contributed to the screenplay and worked behind the scenes.
Aaron honed his craft by studying acting for stage and media at the Plymouth Goschen Centre. His early career included roles in the straight-to-DVD movie ALIEN Outbreak and the TV show The Comic Strip Presents: RED TOP. Landing a role in A24 film Warfare has been a dream come true for Aaron, who grew up with a passion for action films. Known for his physically demanding approach to acting, Aaron is thrilled to work alongside the talented team behind this project.

In February 2024, it was announced that A24 was developing Warfare, a war film co-written and co-directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland, following their previous collaboration on Garland’s film Civil War, where Mendoza served as the military supervisor.
Warfare is set in mid-2000s Iraq and follows a Navy SEAL team whose mission goes terribly wrong. The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Will Poulter as the team captain, Kit Connor, Cosmo Jarvis, and Finn Bennett, among others. D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai will portray Mendoza himself. Notably, Garland, who had announced plans to step back from directing to focus on writing, clarified that his role in Warfare would be more about supporting Mendoza’s vision.
While Aaron remains tight-lipped about the details of the Warfare project, he assures audiences that it will be an incredible and powerful experience.
The film has local talent helping to bring the vision to life with local directors and creatives all Co ordinating to bring this project to life.
In addition to his role in Warfare, Aaron has been deeply involved in Tape 52, a sci-fi found-footage horror film set and filmed in the South West of the United Kingdom. The film serves as a sequel to Tape 51, with Aaron starring as the lead character, David, who awakens two years after the events of the first film, back on Earth and searching for answers. Tape 52 features a wealth of local talent, with directors and creatives from the region collaborating to bring this vision to life. Filming took place over two months in Plymouth and the broader South West area, with the movie scheduled for release later this year.
With a busy year behind him and no plans to slow down, Aaron is looking forward to what the future holds.
