The City Council has launched a major operation to shield Plymouth’s most vulnerable residents from the coronavirus.
All medically vulnerable people have been advised to stay in their home for 12 weeks to protect themselves. This group includes some already seriously ill people, as well as those living with a disability or ongoing medical conditions.
Although many of these people will already have great support from friends, family or neighbours, some won’t and this is where the Caring for Plymouth Alliance is stepping in.
Its support hub is helping to ensure these people are provided with emotional support and help with shopping, medicine collection, paying bills and accessing money.
It is also supporting other vulnerable older and disabled people who are affected by COVID-19 and who have no-one to help them maintain their independence.
Caring for Plymouth is an alliance between the Council, Livewell Southwest and a large number of voluntary and community sector organisations and all staff providing the service have had background checks.
