BBC Two’s long-running quiz show Mastermind is once again searching for the UK’s brightest minds to take the iconic black chair.
With filming set to take place in Belfast, producers are particularly keen to hear from contenders in the Southwest of England who believe they have the knowledge and composure to take on the challenge.
The show, renowned for its rigorous questioning and high-pressure environment, invites applicants from all backgrounds to test their general knowledge and specialist subject expertise. Entry is open to UK residents, including those from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, who are aged 18 or over.
The Casting Researcher from Hat Trick Productions said:
‘we had Jane Hill (from Plymouth) on the programme in 2024. She performed really well, winning her Heat episode and making it to the semifinal. We would love to get more people like Jane applying for the programme.’
Prospective contestants can apply by emailing mastermind.hth@hattrick.com, with the application process taking just ten minutes to complete. While applications officially close on 9th May, early submissions are encouraged as casting is already underway.

How do you get on the show?
After you have submitted your application, one of the casting team may get in touch to organise a Zoom audition with you. We’ll do a short general knowledge quiz and learn more about why you’ve chosen your Specialist Subjects.
The audition will only take 15-20 minutes and is very relaxed and fun!
Although applications close on the 9th of May 2025, we would encourage you to apply as soonas possible as casting is currently underway!
