St Levan Park Neighbourhood Watch summer fun day was a great success. The weather could not have been better and, once again, the event was well supported by the local community who enjoyed the various activities and stalls on offer throughout the day.
Organisers’ thanks must go to numerous organisations who provided help and support both before and on the day to make it a success.
These included the local Coop store at St George’s Terrace whose staff carried out various fund raising events to pay for ZigZag, the magician, who entertained children and parents for 90 minutes.
They were also instrumental in ensuring 10,000 leaflets were delivered along with volunteers from Stoke Traders and Residents Association (STARS) and St Levan Park Neighbourhood Watch’s own co-ordinators. Wolseley Trust kindly loaned tables and chairs, while Clean Our Patch did a tremendous job during the afternoon in maintaining the immaculate look of the park.
A spokesperson for the organisers said:
“We were so lucky in having such diverse entertainment throughout the day and wholeheartedly thank the entertainers who gave their time for free.
“These included Devonport Boxing Association, Kracken, Blasé Blues, Friends Uke-nited and The Sound Council.
“Our thanks to Priscilla Carrol who helped in putting the programme together by introducing us to some of the entertainers. Visitors could also join Alex from Sound of Scrap in making music from the most unlikely recycled objects. Another main attraction was the Gable’s Dog Show.
“Like many other community events, the day is organised and run by volunteers with many of the activities provided also run by volunteers. The event couldn’t happen without them giving up their free time.
“In previous years, St Levan Park Neighbourhood Watch has been fully supported by local councillors and this year was no exception.
“In addition, other local groups have been of tremendous help and we must thank STARS for including us when having flyers and posters printed following the procurement of funding from the National Lottery for their event.
“This was the seventh family fun day and each year we have succeeded in providing more free entertainment.
“We would like to offer our visitors a more diverse array of craft and produce stalls, whether charities or businesses, and invite anyone interested in our July 2019 event to contact us.
“Over the years, we have forged strong partnerships with other voluntary groups and are so pleased to see the cooperation developing this year with our neighbours in Stoke.
“Perhaps this is the way to go in future years where individual groups support each other with such events for the benefit of the community.
“Our thanks to everyone involved and those who attended on the day, including our MP Luke Pollard.”
