Three Derriford Hospital consultants have appeared in a musical film tribute to those who lost their lives during the pandemic.
‘We Will Remember (We Can’t Forget)’ was commissioned by the British Medical Association, and was created to commemorate all NHS workers who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film features Dr William Mukonoweshuro (consultant neuroradiologist), Dr Nelofer Gafoor (consultant radiologist) and Dr Catherine Western (consultant vascular surgeon). The film encompasses the narration of ‘I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart)’, a poem by E.E. Cummings.
The narration is intertwined with music produced by Paul K Joyce, who is best known for his work on the film Marley and Me.
“I was honoured and privileged to participate in this important piece of work,” said William.
“In particular, my performance allowed me to represent members of the BAME community who were disproportionately impacted during the first wave of the pandemic.
“You will see there is good representation of BAME colleagues and I think this important piece of work is worth everyone taking time to see.”
Catherine added:
“It was a real honour to be able to play a part in commemorating NHS staff who lost their lives helping others during the pandemic. It is such a beautiful and poignant piece.”
Nelofer said:
“I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this excellent and thoughtful project. It has become a healing process for my soul both professionally and personally.”
