Families in enthusiastic welcome for HMS Portland homecoming

Pictured: Families waving at their loved ones, as ships company of HMS Portland arrives back home in Plymouth. The Devonport based Type 23 frigate HMS Portland, has arrive back at her base port in Plymouth having returned from a busy period patrolling in UK water and across the North Atlantic. The Ship was welcomed by friends and families on the Jetty after sailing the final few miles from Plymouth Sound up the River Tamar. Her deployment in the North Atlantic also included a stop off in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Canada’s Eastern Seaboard, where she attended the first International Sea Week held at the newly refurbished Halifax Naval Base. During the visit the Ship’s Rugby team played a game against a North Atlantic select. HMS Portland also joined the HMS Queen Elizabeth Carrier Strike group and operated with other NATO partners.
