The weather stayed dry on Saturday May 12 much to the relief of organisers of Plympton’s May Fair which took place that day. The event was opened by Stannator Andrew Hill who arrived in a vintage motor car with his partner Charlotte Willis.
Inside Harewood House there were a variety of charity and voluntary group stalls as well as refreshments, with musician Andy Lewis playing and singing a variety of songs in the foyer.
Outside there were further stalls, including games such as Hoopla, a police information and advice stall and an entertainment arena which was active throughout the day. The Plympton Academy Samba Band got the entertainment under way after the opening ceremony and other acts to entertain the crowds during the day included Colleen’s Offkey Singers and the Starlite School of Dance.
A Zumba session got the crowds involved in some exercise and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf gave a talk about their work.
In the nearby Livewell Clinic Car Park the public were able to enjoy a static display of vintage cars and the Litas Ladies showed off their motorcycles and allowed adults and children to pose for pictures on them.
Free taster tennis sessions were available on the tennis courts and a league match took place during the afternoon on the cricket pitch.
At the end of the event Plympton Community Council chairman Rose Hamley presented a bouquet of flowers to Pauline Kadoche who was the leading force behind the organisational arrangements for the day and the one who ensured everything came together as it did.

“It was great to see such a large turnout and after the very rainy day we had the day before it was a big relief this had passed by the Saturday morning.”
