The voluntary gardening team, all members of the Friends of Devonport Park, have this year created some new floral beds in the park.
The beds, overlooking the Fore Street side of the park, have been funded through the Big Lottery Awards for All England.
The emphasis was on teaching how formal beds were created in the past, everything from the planning stage through to planting.
Horticultural consultant, Dennis Trewin, led the volunteers through the whole process with a series of workshops. Of the three new beds, two were in flower this year. One is of the style that would have been used during the Victorian period and the second, in a style, typical during the 1970s.
The third bed, which has just been planted up, was designed by the gardeners several years ago, using a specific colour palette of blues & yellows, as a perennial herbaceous border which, it is planned to add to at a later stage.
