Seven year old Lola decided to get her hair cut for the first time and in doing so, wanted to raise some money for the children’s wards at Derriford Hospital.
After watching a TV programme about children with cancer, and how they often lose their hair during chemotherapy treatment, Lola decided she would help.
Having her long hair cut short, she donated it to the Little Princess Trust, who provide real-hair wigs to children and young people who have unfortunately lost their own hair due to having cancer treatment and other illnesses.
Not only that, but Lola also asked friends and family to sponsor her, raising a grand total of £761 for the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund.
The fund is a registered charity that aims to make a difference for all young patients who stay or receive treatment at Derriford Hospital, as well as their families and carers.
Sue Rodgers, fundraising co-ordinator for the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund and Play Service Team Leader at Derriford Hospital, said: “What a brilliant young lady. It’s really inspiring that she not only wanted to do something for children who are dealing with such a serious condition, by donating her hair to make wigs, but also wanting to help her local children’s wards where young cancer patients receive treatment.
“We’d like to say thank you so much to Lola. We are so impressed with your thoughtfulness, and your new hairstyle looks beautiful.”
