Plymouth Coach Station staff have won international recognition for their fundraising work at the National Express Group company awards.
The nine-strong team won the ‘Highly Commended’ status in the Community Award category at the National Express Group Values Awards that celebrate achievements of the 47,000 global National Express Group staff from Spain, Morocco, Bahrain, North America, Germany and the UK.
At the awards ceremony at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, the team were personally congratulated by group chief executive Dean Finch for their outstanding fundraising efforts.
The team were nominated for the Values Awards after last year raising more than £4,000 for charity – the highest amount within the company’s UK divisions – for local charities including the RSPCA, Macmillan Cancer Support and Help for Heroes.
The relatively young team, which only formed when Plymouth Coach Station opened its doors to the public in September 2016, won praise from all over the business for their tireless charity work including a ‘Big Easter Egg Appeal’, cake bake sales, open days and raffles.

They also formed numerous partnerships with local businesses who donated prizes, went on six volunteering days and hosted nine work experience placements for local school pupils in order to help children enhance their skills. Plymouth Station manager Donna McDonald said:
“I’m so thrilled that our little team has been recognised among so many other fantastic teams from all over the business. We are a tight knit group who support each other and above all we love helping others.”
National Express Coach managing director Chris Hardy said:
“I’m proud and delighted that the staff at Plymouth Coach Station have won this commendation. Getting recognition when you are up against some incredible teams across a global business is not easy but Plymouth’s amazing fundraising efforts have been truly inspiring.”
The Plymouth Coach Station team won the overall National Express UK Coach Community Award earlier this year which meant they were finalists for the National Express Group Community Award at the Group Values Awards.
