Plymouth Environmental Action (PEA), a non-profit, conservation volunteering organisation in Plymouth is looking for Conservation Leaders.
PLYMOUTH ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIONS WORK ACROSS PLYMOUTH
At the end of 2022 PEA secured a grant from Sea-Changers, enabling them to run “Project Plastic” throughout 2023. “Project Plastic” has been a series of 12 beach events centred around plastic pollution in the ocean. With volunteers, Plymouth Environmental Action (PEA) conducted citizen science surveys of both beach litter and marine microplastic, sharing the results with the Marine Conservation Society and The Big Microplastics Survey.
Their work included the exploration of marine life and submitted findings for recording through iNaturalist.

One Project Plastic event was held in collaboration with The Rockpool Project, as part of their Bioblitz event at Mountbatten Beach.
During 2023 PEA have also worked together with two private landowners. At Lower Marsh Farm they cleared vegetation to improve an area for ground nesting birds and at Paradise Valley (Plymouth Christmas Tree Farm) they cleared brambles and built steps to improve access and help to alleviate soil erosion.

Over the past year, the volunteers have given over 700 hours of their time to work with PEA and their Conservation Leaders have dedicated nearly 450 hours to planning and running their events. During 2023 PEA has also regularly attended Plymouth University volunteer fair and networked within the Permaculture community across devon.
VOLUNTEERING WITH PEA: BECOMING A CONSERVATION LEADER
As a volunteer Conservation Leader with PEA you will work as part of a friendly and supportive team developing and leading practical conservation events in and around Plymouth.
You will spend your time teaching people about the environment and trying your hand at a variety of practical conservation skills, such as tree planting and maintenance, species and habitat surveys and marine conservation activities, as well as improving your wildlife ID expertise. You will also have the opportunity to get involved with funding applications for new projects and planning new events.
