A Plymouth-based rum distillery Vault 53 is set to appear on national television this weekend, with one of its products featuring on ITV’s Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh.
Vault 53, which is based on Mutley Plain, will see its Prickly Pear & Pink Grapefruit Rum showcased during the programme’s Best of British segment on Sunday, 18 January.
The item will be presented by Ian Burrell, a well-known rum specialist, who will discuss the drink’s flavour profile before demonstrating how it can be used in a cocktail. The segment is expected to air during the final part of the show, which runs from 9:30am to 11:30am.
Founded just over two years ago, Vault 53 is one of a growing number of small, independent spirits producers operating in the South West. The company has built a reputation for producing flavoured rums using a mix of traditional distilling techniques and more unconventional ingredients.
Speaking ahead of the broadcast, founder and head distiller Richard Barker said the feature was recognition of the work put in since the business launched.
“It’s amazing to be considered in this category and to be featured on the show. We’ve been passionately producing our rums for a little over two years now, and it’s fantastic to have our Prickly Pear & Pink Grapefruit Rum shown on the national stage.
It’s a real testament to the effort the team has put in the last couple of years.”
Vault 53 currently produces a range of rums, including spiced, white and flavoured varieties, and is preparing to release its first aged golden rum later this year.
The distillery’s inclusion on Love Your Weekend comes amid continued growth in the UK’s craft spirits sector, with small producers increasingly gaining national attention.
