Children from Morley Meadow Primary school in Plymstock joined forces with Persimmon Homes to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Persimmon’s development in Saltram Meadows is also home to the local primary school and the pupils created a fantastic selection of 28 portraits to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.
With generous sponsorship from GK Signs, the children’s drawings were printed and installed on the site hoarding around the school by local apprentices Tom Elkington and Owen Andrews.
Persimmon Homes contracts manager, Brian Kellow, who organised the display, said:
“Morley Meadow Primary School is a focal part of our Saltram Meadows site and with the support of staff we have always sought to involve the children in the exciting development process.
“The Queen’s Jubilee provided another opportune moment to collaborate with the school and join together as a community to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
“I would like to pay a special mention to Tom Wells from GK Signs who went above and beyond to support this project, ensuring the fantastic artistic talents of the local pupils are now on show at Saltram Meadows.
“The staff, parents and most importantly the children will be over the moon to see their artwork displayed for all to see in the community, not just over the Jubilee weekend, but in the weeks to come.”
Morley Meadow Primary School’s headteacher, Claire Duncan, said:
“Last term, our children learnt in depth about the life and work of Queen Elizabeth II as part the school’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This included giving each child the opportunity to paint a portrait of her majesty the Queen.
“We are delighted that the local community will be able to share in appreciation of their time, talent and work all thanks to the support of Persimmon and GK Signs.
“The school is at the heart of the local community and Persimmon’s Saltram Meadows development and we are always delighted to partner with them on such initiatives that bolster community spirt and highlight the talents of our pupils.”
