Plymouth City Council is running a six week public consultation on its draft proposals to transform Bath Street into the new Millbay Boulevard.
This long awaited scheme will provide the key link between the city centre and the waterfront at Millbay and it is hoped it will become the route of choice for people on foot and by bike.
The new boulevard will totally transform Bath Street which is currently a narrow back street running alongside the rear of the Pavilions buildings into a light and airy tree lined street.

It will run from Millbay Road to Union Street and connect with the existing Isambard Brunel Road provided by developers at Millbay waterfront.
The new boulevard will provide vehicle and pedestrian access and form an important setting to new housing proposed to the west of Bath Street and a planned hotel on the Pavilions car park.
To the north where the boulevard meets Union Street the space become pedestrian only and offers opportunities for this to be an important community space.

These proposals for change have been made possible by the close co-operation between James Brent’s Akkeron Team who control the Pavilions and the council’s project team who have devised a plan to remove redundant elements of the Pavilions structure to gain the extra space to create the boulevard.
Part of those significant changes will involve the removal of the disused footbridge over Union Street together with its stair tower and supports.
The public consultation is seeking the public’s views on the look and feel of the boulevard and prompts responses on the appearance of a new tall boundary wall with the Pavilions and the use and design of the new pedestrian space.
