Having participated in five series of Robot Wars with the notable robot known as Ming the Merciless, Andrew’s expertise and experiences have garnered the Plymouth public’s attention. What began as a modest display of his robotic endeavours at his restaurant ‘The Bottling Plant’ has now blossomed into a full-fledged event, spurred by the continued interest and inquiries from the public.
Andrew’s decision to organise this event stems from the public’s recognition and fascination with the indomitable robot Ming The Merciless, proudly displayed atop the Bottling Plant kitchen.
“And I thought, we’ve got quite an eclectic mix of stuff here. I’ll just put it up and I thought, well, people aren’t really going to take notice of it. So I put the robot up and I was really surprised at the number of people that asked questions about it!”
Intended as nothing more than a curiosity Andrew now seeks to provide an engaging platform for enthusiasts and curious minds alike to come to the event at the Bottling Plant where you can enjoy a pie and a pint, have an opportunity to chat with the creator and see the robots Andrew has built.

During our chat about the event, Andrew reflects on his past involvement in Robot Wars and reminisces about the challenges and excitement behind the scenes. From the early days characterised by unforeseen mishaps to the subsequent implementation of safety measures, Andrew offers insight into the evolution of Robot Wars.
“I’ve seen crew members attacked by robots. I’ve seen them being spiked by robots. I’ve seen pieces come off robots and go past crew members heads and things like that.”
Beyond his tenure on Robot Wars, Andrew’s dedication to robotics led him to establish Robots R US, a venture aimed at bringing robotic combat experiences to theme parks and educational institutions.
“We started a company called Robots R US, and we produced a piece of kit called Robogedon, which was a two and a half ton mobile robotic combat system. And I had them in theme parks, Alton Towers, Legoland and places like that, so that you could fight with robots, you know, and we developed or I designed these Cyber Raptors that were flipping robots, and we’ve got one upstairs, I’ve got one here, and we put them in theme parks.”
