A Plymouth quarry has gone greener with the installation of 208 new solar panels to power part of its operations, a move set to cut carbon emissions and support a cleaner future.
Holcim UK, a global leader in sustainable construction, has fitted the panels on the rooftop of its workshops at the Moorcroft site in Plymstock, alongside Elburton Road.
The project, managed by Regenerco and installed by Aniron, will generate over 76,000 kWh of renewable power every year, which is enough to meet around 2% of the quarry’s annual energy needs and save 15.9 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
A Step Towards Net Zero
The solar rollout is part of Holcim’s Net Zero Strategy, which aims to achieve zero emissions before 2050.

Joanna Walker, Energy Manager at Holcim UK Said:
“Our initial focus is on identifying suitable locations for roof mounted solar across our UK sites.
“Moorcroft is a welcome addition to the scheme we have already successfully implemented and helps us continue to roll-out renewable energy sources as part of our Net Zero Strategy, helping us on our journey to zero emissions.
“We have further schemes in the pipeline for the rest of the year including both rooftop and ground mounted initiatives.”
This follows recent solar installations at Holcim’s Hulland Ward, Bardon Hill, and Callow sites, continuing the company’s drive to decarbonise its UK operations.

Holcim’s Moorcroft site includes a limestone quarry, asphalt plant, and ready-mix concrete operations, making the renewable switch a significant step for local industry.
