A 19 year old student who has excelled with her work on a number of community projects in Barne Barton is now using her experience at Camp America in California. Bridey Borda started working on a local photography project run by Tamar View and FotoNow – a local community interest company – when she was just 13.
“I am really excited to be heading off to America – it will be a totally new experience for me.”
Bridey said:
“Six years ago I had no idea how to use a DSLR camera and now, through the support of FotoNow and Tamar View I have gone on to study photography, have had the chance to exhibit my work and even sold some of my work to the Lord Mayor!
“This then led me to being able to help young people to create their own work and produce Scrapbooks called Barne Barton: Then and Now. My photography at Tamar View has come full circle and I am now aiming to set up more photography and mixed media projects with young people in the future.”
Bridey, who attended Marine Academy Plymouth, is now studying youth and community work at Marjon – having received a £4,000 bursary from FotoNow last year. The bursary was made available thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Clarion Futures and the North Yard Community Trust in support of a local heritage project called The Island Stories.
Earlier this year she applied to Camp America and is now assisting the photography department at YMCA Camp Campbell in Boulder Creek, California. She will also be involved in social media work.
Bridey flew out to the USA at the beginning of June and will return to the UK in September. Before she left Bridey said:
“I am really excited to be heading off to America – it will be a totally new experience for me.”
While she is the USA Bridey will be heading to San Francsisco for an Ed Sheeran concert. “I can’t wait,” she added.
