Compton Ward litter picking volunteers were out in force at the beginning of June in the Mutley area. While they picked up usual quantities of discarded drink cans, plastic bottles, empty crisp packets and crushed food cartons from the surrounding areas (totalling to 12 large litter bags), there was one notable exception.
When the volunteers moved into Tavy Place, there was nothing for them to do. The road and pavements were completely litter free and all litter bins were neatly aligned with their lids shut. In short, the area was immaculate.
Compton Ward councillor David Fletcher, who set up and runs the litter picking group, said,
“Tavy Place is a text book example of how residents, in conjunction with, the Street Cleansing Department of Plymouth City Council, have kept the street clean and tidy. It is a real pleasure to be able to report some positive news on the litter front, rather than always having to highlight and pick up large volumes of litter in other areas. If Tavy Place can do it, perhaps other streets may like to follow suit.”
