Plympton Community Council have announced their choice to be Plympton’s next Youth Ambassador.
She is 17 year old Molly Disney who is a student at Hele’s School. Molly was chosen for the role after a recent selection process at Harewood House.
The role of Youth Ambassador was first introduced in 2017 in an effort to give a greater voice to young people in Plympton.
The Youth Ambassador attends and speaks at meetings of the community council as well as attending civic events and other functions.
Outgoing Youth Ambassador Isaac Hudson has done things such as march in the Remembrance Sunday parade in Plympton and lay a poppy cross on behalf of the young people of the town at the cenotaph by Plympton Castle.
He has also engaged with the Royal British Legion about youth matters, attended a seminar for young people at Plympton Academy, had tea with the Lord Mayor at the official residence on the Hoe and handed out prizes at the Rotary Club of Plympton’s Youth Speaks competition.
After her selection to be Isaac’s successor Molly said:
“I feel very honoured to be the next Youth Ambassador to encourage young people to speak out and ensure that their views will be heard.”
Mental health matters is one of the things Molly has identified as a big issue among young people at the moment and she feels it is important that they know where to go for help.
Molly is now looking forward to being invited to events during her year in office.
She was due to be installed at a formal investiture ceremony along with the next Stannator, Natalie Harrison, as the Chronicle was going to press.
Outgoing Stannator Andrew Hill who was on the selection panel said:
“We had a strong group of applicants come forward and the interview panel had quite a difficult task choosing the successful candidate as all the applicants had something they could offer to the role.
“Molly came across confidently and vocalised ideas as to how she would like the role to develop with her at the helm and we look forward to seeing how she puts her ideas into practice in the year ahead.”
