Plymouth’s West End Carnival on Saturday August 24th offers a day filled with dragons, magic and adventure.
This year’s theme, Dragons and Mythical Beasts, invites families to enjoy a variety of free entertainment and activities at Plymouth City Centre with the West End Carnival.

The West End Carnival, organized by the Plymouth City Centre Company and part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, aims to support local businesses while providing a memorable experience for visitors.
Steve Hughes, chief executive of the Plymouth City Centre Company which organises the event, said:
“The carnival just gets better and more popular every year and we hope people will get creative and make their own dragon costumes and come and join in the parade.”
“We started the carnival to support our businesses, so we want as many people as possible to come down and see just what the West End has to offer.”
The festivities will kick off at Frankfort Gate at 11am with the Crooked Tempo Samba Band leading a vibrant parade featuring Ash the dragon and his baby dragons, Plymouth Dance groups, stilt-walkers, circus performers, puppets, and Taiko drummers. The parade will proceed up New George Street to the Piazza before returning to Frankfort Gate for a packed program of live entertainment on the main stage.
Inside Plymouth Market, visitors can enjoy free face painting, meet princess and superhero characters, and explore a wide range of food and drink stalls. The surrounding streets will also be lined with street food vendors offering international cuisines.
West End businesses are participating with outdoor stalls, activities, and special offers. Plymouth City Centre businesses are invited to book free stalls to engage with the crowd.
Leading up to the event, workshops are available for those interested in learning the parade dance movements and making parade props. These workshops, hosted by Plymouth Dance and the Plymouth & Devon Racial Equality Council, are open to everyone. Additionally, a carnival preview event will take place at the Moxy Hotel Plymouth on Friday, August 23, from 6pm. This preview will feature performances by local artists, a Dragon Pre-Performance, and a selection of signature cocktails and mocktails.
