Eight emerging music acts aged 16–25 are being offered paid city-centre performances and professional career support as part of a new Plymouth programme launching in 2026.
Young musicians from across Plymouth are being invited to help shape the sound of the city next summer, with a new initiative offering live performances, studio recording and industry mentoring in the heart of the city centre.
The Plymouth City Centre New Music 2026 programme will support eight Plymouth-based artists to perform at the city’s new Amphitheatre space, while gaining hands-on experience in recording, releasing and promoting original music.
Running from June to September 2026, the Saturday live music programme aims to showcase emerging local talent while giving young artists the tools they need to take the next step in their careers.
Paid performances and studio recording opportunities
- Each selected act will receive a career development package valued at £700, including:
- A paid 30-minute supporting slot at the city centre Amphitheatre
- Professional recording and mixing of a single at DBS Studios
- A workshop on releasing music and getting tracks onto streaming platforms
- Mentoring and creative support from Grace Lightman, producer, songwriter and Plymouth’s Music Ambassador
- Inclusion on the Plymouth City Centre New Music playlist on streaming platforms
The programme is open to all music genres, with applications welcomed from solo performers and bands. At least 80 per cent of band members must be aged between 16 and 25.

‘A platform to build confidence and momentum’
Hannah Harris, chief executive of Plymouth Culture, said the scheme is designed to offer more than just a performance opportunity.
“We know how transformative the right opportunity at the right time can be for young artists,” she said.
“This programme is about supporting emerging talent not just to perform, but to develop, record and release their own work – building confidence, experience and momentum for what comes next.”
Steve Hughes, chief executive of Plymouth City Centre Company, said live music plays a key role in bringing the city centre to life.
“This puts Plymouth’s talented young musicians front and centre, helping to create a vibrant, welcoming city centre and attracting people into our public spaces,” he said.
Who can apply
To be eligible, applicants must be:
- Based in Plymouth
- Aged 16–25
- Solo artists or bands (with at least 80 per cent of members aged 16–25)
All programme activity will take place at weekends. Studio recording sessions will run across April 2026, with dates agreed in advance.

Applications can be submitted in written, audio or video format, with flexibility built in to support access needs.
The deadline to apply is 10am on Monday 16 February 2026.
