Whitleigh’s Four Greens Community Trust has launched a campaign to fund 50,000 tins of food to help people who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.
The Whitleigh Four Greens Community Trust has for the past four years provided emergency food parcels for those in greatest need and has established a community larder to help people with their weekly shop. Over 1200 people benefited from the service in 2023.
Each year the Trust needs to raise more than £100,000 and previous years have seen many fundraising and Crowdfunding initiatives to support this work.

Its current ambitious fundraising initiative is the 50,000 Food Tin Appeal which aims to achieve the target through the donation of tins or through financial donations by the end of January.
The appeal was launched by Plymouth’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Mark Shayer in December and in the first two weeks 15,000 tins had been collected from businesses and individuals from across Plymouth and beyond.
They now want local businesses and individuals who would commit to supporting the appeal by becoming a collection point for tins.
All publicity, crates and information will be provided by the Trust who ask that the crates are placed in places of work, shops or community settings for staff and customers to donate tins to the cause.
They would also welcome donations which can be made at www.fourgreenscommunitytrust.co.uk as well as individual donations of food to be donated to the Four Greens Community Trust based at 15 Whitleigh Green, Whitleigh Plymouth PL5 4DD.

The Trust has already signed up 60 companies such as Wolferstans, Gardiners Haulage, Morrisons and Lidl as well as over 40 community groups such as Chaddlewood Farm Community Centre and the Argyle Community Trust. Football teams in the Adrenalin Devon Junior and Minor League are also supporting the initiative.
All supporters receive a certificate of recognition and will continually be promoted on the Trust’s social media channels.
