The musical comedy Calamity Jane is scheduled to begin its run at Theatre Royal Plymouth next week, playing from July 15th to 19th. This production is part of its current UK tour.
The show features Carrie Hope Fletcher in the title role. Plymouth-born West End performer Samuel Holmes will play Francis Fryer. Holmes has previously appeared at Theatre Royal Plymouth in productions such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Calamity Jane is based on the 1953 film. The stage adaptation includes songs such as “The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away),” “The Black Hills of Dakota,” “Just Blew in from the Windy City,” and “Secret Love.” The narrative follows Calamity Jane’s experiences in Deadwood, her interactions with characters like Lieutenant Gilmartin and Wild Bill Hickok, and her response to the arrival of Chicago stage star Adelaid Adams.
This production opened in January 2025 and marks its first UK tour in ten years. Limited tickets are currently available for the Theatre Royal Plymouth performances.
