One of Plymouth’s fastest rising young bands will play their biggest headline show in June, when they appear at Pavilions Introduces.
The Native is made up of Charlie Noordewier, Ben Andrew, Tom Booth and Harry Youngs, who are all 18, and Max Williams, who is 21. The boys are all local to the Plymouth area and all but Max are studying A Levels at Devonport High School for Boys. Max works for his family’s ice cream business based on Dartmoor.
The formation of the band can be traced back to Charlie and Ben writing songs during their lunch breaks and in between lessons whilst studying for their GCSEs.

They were quickly joined by their two friends Tom and Harry at the beginning of 2018 after the group of school mates realised they had a real passion for music.
In June 2018, the band were lucky enough to win the public vote to play at MTV’s Ocean City Sounds 2018 but were short of a drummer. Max was known from previous gigs and when asked, he stepped up and took on the role with only a week’s notice. Since this he has become a key part of the band, and has solidified the line up now known as ‘The Native’.
With this line up the band has gone from strength to strength, focusing on playing as many shows as possible and writing new material.
The boys describe their music as ‘Indie/Alternative’ and their sound has been likened to artists such as Fleetwood Mac, James Bay, Amber Run and many others.
Last year saw the release of their debut EP ‘Fall Down’ which has just reached over one million streams on Spotify. They have played at some of the UK’s major festivals including opening up for Bastille at MTV’s Ocean City Sounds, Boardmasters, Port Eliot, Leopallooza and Tunes in the Dunes.
Their upcoming gig at Plymouth Pavilions on June 22 is their biggest headline show yet and is incredibly important for the band as it will start off their summer season of shows.

“It’s crucial that the Pavilions Introduces shows are supported by the community as it gives local bands the opportunity to play at one of the South West’s premier venues.
“With the closure of venues such as The Hub, support of Plymouth’s local music scene is needed now more than ever. This is a great honour for the band as we will be playing on the same stage as many of our idols we have seen at the Pavilions over the years.”
