Plymouth Soroptimists Deliver Care Boxes to Families in Temporary Accommodation
Supporting Vulnerable Families in Plymouth
Plymouth Soroptimists recently delivered 36 hygiene care boxes to families living in temporary accommodation, helping some of the city’s most vulnerable households. The initiative aims to provide essential items that many families cannot afford.
Funded by Plymouth Astor Trust
Thanks to a £1,050 grant from Plymouth Astor Trust, the volunteers purchased sturdy storage boxes and filled them with 40 essential hygiene and cleaning items per family.
Each box includes:
- Shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, sanitary towels, flannels
- Kitchen roll, bleach spray, anti-mould spray, handwash
Partnership with Local Organisations
The packing day took place at Odils Learning Foundation in Stonehouse. Odils will distribute the boxes to families in need, including their own service users, as well as families supported by Plymouth Access to Housing (PATH) and the Devon & Cornwall Refugee Service (DCRS).
A Team Effort for Community Impact
Plymouth Soroptimist president Ann said:
“This was a real team effort and it has been lovely to bring this to fruition after discussing the idea with Odils earlier this year.
“We believe there are at least 200 households in Plymouth living in temporary accommodation, and many simply cannot afford the toiletries and cleaning products that most of us take for granted.
We’re really grateful to Plymouth Astor Trust for the grant, which has enabled Soroptimists to support some of these vulnerable families in our community.”
