Seven Plymouth women who have experienced breast cancer have raised nearly £6,000 for charity after hosting a fund-raising ball in the city.
The group, known as the Dare 2 Ladies, organised the event titled Dare 2 Dancing to Make a Difference at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel. The evening raised £5,858 for The Primrose Foundation, which supports cancer services linked to Derriford Hospital.
The group was formed in 2018 after watching the ITV programme The Ladies Full Monty. They decided to take on their own challenge to raise money and awareness for charity.
Michelle Hull, one of the Dare 2 Ladies, said the group never expected their idea to grow as much as it has.
She Says:
“The Dare 2 ladies were formed in 2018 after watching The Ladies Full Monty on ITV. We thought, we could do that and raise some money – so we did!”
Over the years the group has organised four charity balls and taken part in a variety of performances including burlesque, tap dancing, ballroom routines and Bollywood, raising almost £41,000 for the Primrose Foundation.
They also performed on the stage at the London Palladium as part of Britain’s Got Talent, where they met presenters Ant and Dec.
Money raised by the group has helped fund a quiet room for patients, a bursary for a psychologist and has contributed towards a new scanner.
The Dare 2 Ladies are also working with Primrose Foundation trustee Sam Maddock to support the Get it off your Chest community group in Plymouth and surrounding areas. The sessions offer people affected by cancer a chance to meet others, talk and share support over a cup of tea.
Michelle said the group remains committed to supporting others.
“We are all breast cancer thrivers and continue to feel passionately about giving something back – which we will continue to do, so watch this space!”
