A Plymouth businessman is taking on a unique fundraising challenge this Christmas to help families across the city enjoy a brighter festive season.
Joe Sharp, founder of Affordable Waste Services, has launched an ambitious campaign in support of Plymouth Foodbank (Charity No. 1129521). His goal is to raise £4,690, with every donation helping to provide essential supplies and Christmas treats for local families in need.
A Journey from Plymouth to Scotland and Back
Joe and his team are pledging to walk, run, and cycle a total of 938 miles, covering the distance from Plymouth to Scotland and back. For every £5 donated, the team will complete one mile of the journey.
The idea for the fundraiser came after Joe became a father earlier this year, inspiring him to support families who may be struggling over the holidays.
“We feel so blessed to be able to give our son everything he needs,”
Joe explained.
“We wanted to do something that could help other families enjoy a magical Christmas too.”
Supporting Plymouth Foodbank’s Work
All money raised will go directly to Plymouth Foodbank Charity, helping to fund festive food parcels and gifts for families and children across the city.
“If by magic we raise more, who knows where we’ll go next!”
Joe hopes the challenge will inspire others to get involved, whether by donating, sharing the campaign online, or cheering the team on as they clock up the miles.

“This is amazing, the money raised will help so many people from our city, over this Christmas time. Right now, we are feed 280 to 300 people a week who face food poverty.
At Christmas time we will see this up to 450 per week starting round the beginning of December right through to the end of January. The cost to the foodbank will increase by £10,000 to £20,000. The kindness of Joe, his team and those you give will make such a difference. Thanks”
