Following the success of their Scott Business Park mini-meadows and Chaddlewood Bioboost project this year, Pollenize is thrilled to launch the Keyham Bioboost initiative.

Building upon these positive collaborations, this project by Pollenize aims to enhance biodiversity in Keyham by establishing numerous native wildflower meadows throughout the area.

These urban habitats will not only provide a haven for pollinators but also serve as a platform for community science engagement.

Blooming a Network of Urban Meadows:

Pollenize plans to establish multiple native wildflower meadows throughout Keyham. These vibrant ecosystems will benefit local wildlife, especially bees, butterflies, and other pollinators that have seen dramatic population declines. Targeted locations would include schools and public green spaces– creating a connected network of urban oases.

Community Science Takes Flight:

Pollenize aren’t just planting meadows; they’re empowering the community to become citizen scientists! Signage will be installed to encourage people to perform their own bioblitz surveys allowing residents of all ages to participate in documenting the diverse plant and insect life attracted to these meadows. This valuable data will help track the project’s success and inform future conservation efforts.

Working in collaboration with the Green Communities team in Keyham, Pollenize plans to offer educational sessions linked to the National Curriculum to develop biodiversity in school grounds. They plan to give students the opportunity to learn about plants and animals in their school’s green spaces through ecological monitoring in the form of a bioblitz.

Using ecological evaluation of school sites, we will facilitate student-led plans to develop a range of habitats for wildlife, including sowing and exploring the benefits of wildlife meadows. Pollenize will offer regular contact to teachers to ensure meadows are maintained, and plan further sessions with schools so they feel supported and empowered to continue to improve their green spaces independently.

Unlocking Matched Funding:

The Keyham Bioboost Project is fueled by a collaborative spirit. Aviva Community Fund has generously offered to match-fund donations, effectively doubling your impact! Additionally, a crucial 50% of funding from the Plymouth City Council Change Fund hinges on securing 25 unique supporters.

Content Manager, Louis Chadwick, who comes with loads of creative experience, having worked in various design roles in Plymouth over the past 12 years. Louis says: “I was very much drawn to the role at Cornerstone Vision due to my interest in print media. I also like being more involved with the community. You feel a bit distanced from your customer base when they are national brands so as someone who has lived in Plymouth all their life, I always wanted to have a stronger connection to the city. Perhaps because I now see how my myriad of skills could be beneficial to a wider clientele through Cornerstone Vision and the Plymouth Chronicle”. “I particularly enjoy working with Chris Girdler, the editor of the Plymouth Chronicle,” says Louis. “The publication offers Plymouth a much-needed boost. There is so much positive energy out there and the Chronicle effectively captures this, giving people more confidence to move forwards with their dreams.”
