Schoolchildren and staff in Plymouth are being encouraged to take part in the new Moonwalk challenge and win a prize.
The Plymouth-wide school walking challenge – which was kicked off during national Walk To School Week in May – aims to collectively travel to the moon by the end of October. It’s all part of the Plymotion project which aims to get more people in Plymouth walking, cycling and using public transport and less people using cars.
Schools are being encouraged to design a friendship flag and groups of ten older children from each school will take part in a relay and be in with the chance of winning a visit from Space Odyssey, the travelling planetarium.
Second prize is a new ScooterPod for a lucky school and other prizes include stickers, water bottles, keyrings and more.
Kids will be encouraged along the way by Astro Mo, the Plymotion Moonwalk mascot.

Walk To School Week is a national initiative led by the charity Living Streets.
This year’s five-day walking challenge for the week, Walking Roots, took children on an exploration of a tree’s ecosystem and will provide them with fun, educational activities that they can complete with you on their walk to or from school. At the end of the week, they’ll be rewarded with a packet of Living Streets’ sunflower seeds to grow and nourish at home.
