Members of the St Mary’s Area Residents Team (SMART) have handed over a cheque for £400 to the Plym Valley Railway.
The railway is SMART’s adopted cause for the year and among the group’s fundraising activities they ran the Harewood House Coffee Bar for the four days after the recent Mayday Bank Holiday.
SMART meets monthly and are a residents forum for those living in the PL7 postcode area. Local councillors attend the group’s meetings and discussions can take place on a variety of topics.
Recently they discussed the issue of equipment in the St Mary’s play park and the loss of a lollipop patrol in Market Road.
Previously the group raised funds to place three benches in St Mary’s Park and also lobbied for a youth shelter to be installed there.
Following their recent cheque presentation to the Plym Valley Railway some of their members tried out one of the brake van rides.
Plym Valley Railway chairman Eric Lobb told the group:
“We are very grateful. It (the donation) will be very, very useful. It is always very difficult for the railway to come by funds and we very much appreciate it.”
