A woman from Stoke has been named as a finalist in the Architectual Technology Awards.
Simone Gray, 26, is making a name for herself as an innovative industry leader after entering her report on Special Educational Needs facilities into the student category of the competition.
The Architectural Technology awards recognise outstanding achievement and celebrate excellence in architectural technology globally.
Simone’s research focused on features that could be incorporated into a mainstream school that are necessary for the inclusion of children with additional needs. The report touched on layouts of classrooms, acoustics, outdoor spaces and facilities which are vital factors in fulfilling the needs of all children.
Simone, who is studying the Foundation Degree in Construction at City College, said:
“This report is something I am incredibly passionate about.
“Getting to research and explore architectural solutions to help those with special needs is something I never thought I would be able to do but studying at City College has allowed me to do this.
“I am over the moon – I can’t really believe I am a finalist in this international competition. It’s great to have all my hard work recognised and I’m looking forward to attending the awards in September.”
Gursewak Aulakh, City College’s programme leader in Construction and Built Environment and Simone’s project supervisor said:
“We are very proud of Simone. This is a fantastic achievement and goes to show the high quality of the work produced by students here at the college.
“Simone’s report is fantastic and could make a real difference to young people with special needs. She is very worthy of this recognition and we hope she is crowned the winner.”
The winner will be announced at the Architectural Technology awards in September at a special ceremony in London.
