Woodland can improve health and wellbeing in many ways, including reducing stress, improving mood, and boosting the immune system according to Woodland Trust. Celebrate trees at the Urban Tree Festival Open Day at Tulgey Woods in Compton on Saturday 11th May from 3-6pm.
This is an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of free woodland wellness activities including nature craft, tree sketching workshops with local artist and historian Richard Fisher, floral wreath headdress making, smoothie bike blending, and a chance to see the Woods Sanctuary with private group tours.
The woodland tours will be hosted by owners Sam and Sid Remmer of Tulgey Woods Sanctuary CIC who have a background in science and nature and who are celebrating their 10th year since purchasing the urban woodland for conservation purposes.

Urban Tree Festival will have a variety of free activities including morris dancing with the
Old Town Twelves, and opportunities to learn more about the ecology and biodiversity of the plants and animals including birds, bees and dragonflies that live in the urban woodland.
The event is part of Being Well in the Woods which is funded by the Rank Foundation and Livewell South West. This work curates life-changing creative experiences in Tulgey Woods for people who are at risk of becoming socially-isolated and lonely and is a partnership project between The Conscious Sisters CIC and Tulgey Woods Sanctuary CIC. The Urban Tree Festival Open Day has also received community grants from local councillors – Dylan Tippetts, Angela Penrose and Charlotte Carlyle.
