B-Bar will no longer operate as an independent bar at Barbican Theatre, bringing to an end a 20-year presence at the Plymouth venue.
The bar has been closely associated with live music, comedy and social events at the theatre, becoming a well-known part of the experience for audiences and performers.
From April, Barbican Theatre will take the bar operation in-house as part of a planned transition. The theatre said the change would allow it to continue offering refreshments during performances and events, while simplifying the operation.
Claire Honey, of Barbican Theatre, said B-Bar had been “part of the life of this building for many years” and thanked the team for their contribution as they move on to new projects.
She said the theatre’s focus was on continuity, ensuring audiences continue to feel welcome and able to enjoy a drink as part of their visit.
While the B-Bar name and independent operation will come to an end, bar services will continue at the venue during performances and events, albeit with a simpler offer.
The theatre said the transition forms part of wider work to strengthen its operations and support the long-term sustainability of the venue.
