Stoke Damerel Primary Academy is marking its 150th anniversary with a week of events celebrating its past, present, and future.
Stoke Damerel Primary Academy, which has been at the heart of the community since 1874, will host a series of activities reflecting its long history and the role it continues to play in the city.
The celebrations begin on Monday, 24 February, with a visit from storyteller Clive Pig, who will transport students back in time with tales of Victorian-era schooling. A formal assembly will set the tone for the week, followed by a themed school meal inspired by the era in which the academy was founded.
Throughout the week, pupils will take part in guided visits to the site of the original school in Stoke Village, providing a chance to explore the institution’s early years and how it has evolved over time.
A key moment in the celebrations comes on Thursday, 27 February, when the school will host a community event at 3:00 PM. The gathering will include a ceremonial cake-cutting, the planting of a tree, and the burial of a time capsule to preserve memories for future generations. Pupils will also showcase projects on different historical decades, dressing in period clothing to bring the past to life. A professional photography session will document the day, with an aerial drone capturing an image of the entire school forming the number ‘150.’
The week will conclude with a special assembly on Friday, 28 February, featuring recollections from a staff member who was present when the school moved to its current site in 1989. Historic photographs and personal memories will offer students a first-hand account of a pivotal moment in the school’s history.
