A nationwide initiative designed to inspire the next generation of rugby players will arrive in Plymouth later this month as the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy visits Plymstock Oaks RFC.

The visit forms part of the Community Rugby Trophy Tour, a national programme celebrating the rapid growth of the women’s game and bringing the sport’s most iconic prize directly into local communities across the UK.
Through the tour, rugby clubs are hosting events that aim to introduce more girls to the sport, highlight opportunities to get involved, and build excitement around women’s rugby at grassroots level.
Plymstock Oaks RFC will host the trophy on Monday 30 March, giving families, players and supporters the chance to see the famous prize up close as it travels across the country.
The trophy will be on display at the club between 5pm and 6.45pm, with the event free and open to the public.
To mark the occasion, the club will also host a Girls’ Non-Contact Rugby Session from 5.30pm to 6.30pm for girls aged six to 14, offering a chance for young players to try rugby in a fun and welcoming environment.
The session will be led by qualified coaches and is open to all abilities, with no previous experience required. Participants will also have the opportunity to take a commemorative photo with the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy during the visit.
Events like this are designed to show young girls that rugby is a sport where they can build confidence, develop friendships and discover new opportunities through teamwork and participation.
Conor Thomson, head girls coach at Plymstock Oaks RFC, said the club was proud to play a role in the national tour.
